Abstract

Aesthetics in Buddhism regarding beauty in the Buddhist way has two aspects: ๑) Worldly beauty (lokiya), which is considered material beauty, is considered by Buddhism to be the result of the interaction between the qualities or characteristics of objects and defilements, namely: Satisfaction or happiness or displeasure, which are emotions that are conditioned by each person's temperament, is therefore a feeling regarding the beauty of the perceived object and the emotions that affect it that differ according to the power and influence of each person's defilements. Therefore, worldly beauty or material beauty.              2) The beauty that is a characteristic of Dhamma (Supramundane) or the truth that is a result of the quality or characteristics of Dhamma that appear to the perception of people with wisdom. Or express it through the behavior of a moral person, making the general public aware and it can be seen that he is a person with the beauty of nature, which can be classified as objective because it is beauty which is an objective quality of nature that appears. The phenomenon of the beauty of nature is therefore universal. Everyone who knows or experiences it will have the same understanding, and the beauty of nature remains that way. The criteria for examining Buddhist art in the aesthetic process are based on the principle of three sovereign principles. These include: ๑) Attadipatayya (believing oneself to be the greatest), 2) Lokadhipayya (believing society to be the greatest), and Dharmadhipayya (believing that what is right is the greatest).
