CONCEPTS AND SOCIETY THAT RESULT IN THE SINGHALAKA SUTTA

Abstract

This academic article presents the relationship between Buddhism and society as stated in Buddhist scriptures. It discusses the practices of people in society from the Buddhist perspective or concept of society, which are inextricably linked. In addition, it applies the practices of Buddhism to solve social problems. The concept of society in Buddhism can be studied from various sutras that seem to have the concept of society. This article studies the Singhalaka Sutta because it is related to social practices along with the Kihi Vinaya, emphasizing the abstinence from bad things such as the four defilements, the six defilements, the four bad friends, the four good friends, as well as maintaining relationships with people at different levels and finally helping society according to one's own intelligence and ability. In addition, the Singhalaka Sutta also lays down principles of practice that are consistent with each person's status and role.
