Successful Results of Cultivating Morality in Buddhist School students Nong Sano Wittaya, Khon Taek Sub-district, Sangkha District, Surin Province

Abstract

This thesis entitled ‘Successful Results of Cultivating Morality in Buddhist School Students Nong Sano Wittaya, Khon Taek Sub-district, Sangkha District, Surin Province has three objectives: 1) to study the current conditions of the Buddhist school, Nong Sano Wittaya, Khon Taek sub-district, Sangha district, Surin province, 2) to study the guideline for cultivating morality in the Buddhist school, Nong Sano Wittaya, Khon Taek sub-district, Sangha district, Surin province, and 3) to study the successful results of cultivating morality in the Buddhist school, Nong Sano Wittaya, Khon Taek sub-district, Sangha district, Surin province. It is mixed-method research between quantitative and qualitative. The research methods were used documentary review, observation, questionnaire, and in-in-depth interview. There were three types of research methods; record-based, observation-based, the note record of the current conditions of the Buddhist school, Nong Sano Wittaya, Khon Taek sub-district, Sangha district, Surin province. The questionnaires were used to enquire about seventeen teachers, fourteen school boards, and one hundred and ninety-one parents of students. The in-depth interview was used for an interview with five monks, five school boards school of Nong Sano Wittaya School, one administrator, three teachers, six parents of students, and six students of Nong Sano Witthaya School. Descriptive data analysis was used.

The results are as follow: -

The background of the Buddhist school, Nong Sano Wittaya, Khon Taek sub-district, Sangha district, Surin province. There are five aspects; 1) physical, 2) behavior, 3) pay homage to the Triple Gem activities, the promotion of the Buddhist way, and learning.

    The guideline for cultivating morality in the Buddhist school, Nong Sano Wittaya, Khon Taek sub-district, Sangha district, Surin province found that there are four aspects, namely; 1) In the student behaviors aspect, there is a guideline for cultivating morality among students of the Buddhist school within the framework of the five precepts (Pañca-sîla) and seven good friends (Kalyânamitta),  2) the respected to the Triple Gem activities; there is a guideline for cultivating morality among student of the Buddhist school withing the framework of the ten bases of meritorious actions (Puññakiriyâ-vatthu),  the subjects for gradual instruction (Anupubbikathâ), and the three admonitions of the Buddha (Buddhâ-ovada), 3) The promotion of the Buddhist way aspect, the approach to cultivating morality among students of Buddhist school is within the framework of development of students’ potential according to the principle of four developments are; 1) physical development (Kâya-bhâvanâ), 2) moral development (Sîla -bhâvanâ), 3) mental development (Citta-bhâvanâ), and wisdom development (Paññâ- bhâvanâ). 4) The learning aspect; there is a guideline for cultivating morality in Buddhist schools in the framework of the Threefold Training (Ti-sikkhâ) including training in morality (Sîla-sikkhâ), training in mentality (Samâdhi-sikkhâ), and training in wisdom (Paññâ-sikkhâ)

The successful results of cultivating morality in the Buddhist school, Nong Sano Wittaya, Khon Taek sub-district, Sangha district, Surin province found that the results of evaluation of opinions of stakeholders of educational institution on the success of moral cultivation of the Buddhist school, Nong Sano Wittaya, Khon Taek sub-district, Sangha district, Surin province, there are four aspects are students’ behavior, pay homage to the Triple Gem activities, the promotion of the Buddhist way, and teaching and learning. The overall average qualities are 3.86 at a high level of qualities.
