Assessment of needs of the graduate students, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mahidol University for the research ethics potential promoting and developing activities

Abstract

This article aimed to assess the needs of the graduate students, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mahidol University for the research ethics potential promoting and developing activities.  As for the study in the first stage, the researchers determined the conceptual framework of the needs assessment and found that the graduate students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mahidol University expected the organization to organize the activities of research ethics clinic, the question-answer service provision  by email, telephone, and website, the lecture of research ethics, and use of CITI Program.  The graduate students wanted The Social Sciences Institutional Review Board to coordinate with the related agency to be the main agency to organize the activities.  As for the study in the second stage, the researcher assessed the needs.  The graduate students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mahidol University expressed the opinions that the research ethics potential promoting and developing activities which should be most considerably organized were the question-answer service provision by email (82.4%), the question-answer service provision on website (79.0%), and the question-answer service provision by telephone (65.5%), respectively.

The activities which should be occasionally organized for promoting and developing the research ethics potential were the research ethics clinic organized in the working days by the Research and Technical Affairs Division, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (61.3%), the sub-group research ethics clinic in various departments (58.8%), and the research ethics clinic organized on Saturday-Sunday by the Research and Technical Affairs Division, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (55.5%).
