Abstract

This academic article presents approach for small school administration in remote and border areas to drive digital transformation amidst structural challenges and the digital divide. Although these special-context schools face severe constraints—including per-head funding shortages, unstable digital infrastructure in remote regions, and heavy administrative workloads impacting teacher morale—such limitations can be counterbalanced by leveraging their compact size into strategic agility. This article introduces an innovative management framework conceptualized as the “SLIM Model,” which comprises four integrated elements aligned with the four core pillars of school administration: 1) S - Strategic Agility: swift decision-making and using cloud computing to reduce administrative redundancy; 2) L - Leadership & Culture: fostering  a psychologically safe organization to boost teacher morale; 3) I - Integrated Infrastructure & Sharing: managing budgets through a sharing economy and school clustering; and 4) M - Modern Pedagogy: reinventing academic processes. This framework integrates digital tools into classrooms via blended learning, flipped classrooms, and real-time learning analytics.

Lessons learned from international best practices and successful school networks in Thailand demonstrate that digital technology is not merely an add-on, but a "lifeline" for resolving teacher shortages and reducing workloads by over 50 percent. Ultimate success depends on the digital leadership of administrators in turning geographical challenges into opportunities, thereby elevating academic quality and fostering educational equity for learners in remote areas sustainably.
