Integrating Buddhist Principles for Sustainable Strong community Development: A Case Study of Prachantakham District, Prachinburi Province

Abstract

This research aims to: 1.Examine the problems and obstacles affecting community development in Prachantakham District, Prachinburi Province.2.Analyze approaches for integrating Buddhist principles in strengthening and sustaining communities in the study area.3.Propose a sustainable, self-reliant community development model that adopts Buddhist principles as the core framework for community management.This study employs a qualitative research methodology, conducted through fieldwork and in-depth interviews with 35 participants (monks and laypeople). The research instrument was the in-depth interview guide, and the collected data were analyzed and presented in a descriptive manner.

Research Findings:The study found that the major obstacle hindering community development is the lack of participation, which undermines trust and unity among community members, thereby reducing the effectiveness of development projects. Building a strong community requires emphasizing inner mental strength as the foundation, along with physical and knowledge-based development.The study proposes the “S-A-T-H-I-T Model”, consisting of:S – Spiritual Leadership & Foundation: The presence of spiritual leaders (monks/community leaders).A – Active Participation: Providing opportunities for everyone to participate actively at every stage to create a sense of ownership.T – Trust and Unity: Restoring trust and fostering unity through activities that strengthen relationships.H – Holistic Development: Promoting balanced development across economic, social, and environmental dimensions.I – Integration of Buddhist Principles: Applying Buddhist teachings as tools for daily living and problem-solving.T – Training and Moral Development: Continuously enhancing human potential through training and the cultivation of moral values.
