Abstract

This research aims to examine the current situation and needs for development of an age-friendly city model in Surat Thani Municipality. The study comprises three specific objectives: first, to investigate the existing situation of facilities and services for older adults; second, to explore the needs of older adults regarding urban development; and third, to propose approaches for developing an age-friendly city model in Surat Thani Municipality. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, collecting quantitative data from 391 older adults aged 60 years and above residing within Surat Thani Municipality through questionnaires and qualitative data through in-depth interviews with 14 key informants, including older adult representatives, community leaders, and government officials. The findings reveal that the current situation of age-friendly urban development in Surat Thani Municipality is at a moderate level (mean = 3.24), with healthcare and community services demonstrating the highest level of development, while transportation and outdoor public spaces show the lowest level of development. The primary needs of older adults include accessible public transportation systems, barrier-free public spaces, affordable housing modifications, and inclusive opportunities for participation. The proposed development model emphasizes four critical dimensions: physical infrastructure improvement, social participation enhancement, healthcare service accessibility, and promotion of digital inclusion for older adults.
