Community Preparation to Accommodate Community-Based Tourism in Nam Man Subdistrict, Mueang Loei District, Loei Province

Abstract

This research aims to study the essential needs and processes in preparing the community to accommodate community-based tourism in Nam Man Subdistrict, Mueang Loei District, Loei Province. The research used a mixed-method approach, employing questionnaires as a tool. The population consisted of 4,040 residents of Nam Man Subdistrict. A sample of 357 people was selected using Krejcie and Morgan's table, with simple random sampling. Data analysis was performed using mean scores, standard deviation, and modified PNI value. The study of the preparation process was divided into four stages: (1) Decision-making using the Appreciation-Influence-Control (AIC) process; (2) Implementation through action research; (3) Benefit assessment via focus group discussions; and (4) Evaluation through workshops. The research findings indicate that the essential needs for tourism preparation highlight benefits as the primary need, with a modified PNI value of 0.93. Regarding the preparation process, the stages were 1) Decision making, 2) Implementation, 3) Benefits, and 4) Evaluation. It was found that readiness should be developed in three key areas: (1) tourist site readiness, (2) community product preparation, and (3) accommodation or homestay preparation.
