Abstract

This research aimed to study the causes of conflict and conflict management of stakeholders in the survey and interchange design project in Surat Thani Province. It is a qualitative research study using in-depth interviews and non-participant observation. Data were collected from 33 informants. A literature review of related academic documents found that the cause of the conflict arises from the perception of information by people in the area that is not yet fully covered and that government agencies do not have access to all groups of real stakeholders. There are concern about the effects of environmental pollution on the health of local communities, traffic jams, and accidents during the project construction period. Conflict management guidelines include acceptance through a participatory process from all parties involved by using cooperation to find a way out of the conflict that has occurred; listening to constructive opinions; and having representatives from the private sector play a role in negotiating compensation for land expropriation and various assets on behalf of the affected people.
