Using Ecological Engineering Approach in Rice Pest Management for Hom Nil Organic Rice Production at Ban Thung Yai, Nikompattana Sub-district, Bang Ra Kam District, Phitsanulok Province
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study on ecological engineering approach in rice pest management was carried out with Hom Nil organic rice growers in Ban Thung Yai, Nikompattana sub-district, Bang Ra Kam district, Phitsanulok province. The learning processes compared cultural practices between two rice production approaches; ecological engineering for landscape in rice field and conventional chemically based practice. Experiments were design by one, multi-site experiment with single replication. Eighteen participant farmers contribute to entirely rice plantation. The results showed ecological engineering in rice ecosystem gave higher insect biodiversity compared to conventional chemically based practice. Moreover, rice yield of ecological engineering field were higher comparatively. In conclusion, the ecological engineering approach could be an alternative for farmers to do organic rice production in their own effectively.
