TonTan Community Development Model Prepared for Dealing with Global Warming in Accordance with Sufficiency Economy

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study possibilities for developing TonTan community to be a model community prepared to deal with global warming based on the philosophy of the sufficiency economy.     A questionnaire, informal interviews, participatory observations, documentary studies, a focus group discussion and a public hearing were the tools used to collect data for this research. The results of the study indicated that in the three aspects: society, culture and environment the community had no problems with regards to social, cultural and environmental aspects. However, the community had some economic problems and had little understanding of the philosophy of sufficiency economy. The community development model prepared for dealing with global warming in accordance with the philosophy of sufficiency economy consists of 3 strategies, 7 concepts and 17 projects. In the first 6 months, 16 projects could be implemented and the economic problems as related to the sufficiency economy philosophy. After that, the community development model for preparing the community to deal with global warming in accordance with the sufficiency economy was revised which led to the increase in the number of projects to 22.
