Abstract

This academic article aims to study the meaning appearing on Rue Phra in the tradition of dragging the Buddha image of Muang District, Songkhla Province By visiting the data collection area during the traditional event and collecting retrospective data from documents and online media. The study found that Rue Phra of Songkhla Province has a history of making for a long time before 1895 Later, in 1982, Songkhla municipality organized a contest Rue Phra For the first year, there Rue Phra More than 50 boats per year from various temples contested and exhibited. for division contest Rue Phra It is divided into two types: traditional and local conservative. While studying the meaning by using the concept of signs in analyzing Rue Phra found 4 meanings (1) Meaning related to Buddhism and events in the history of the Buddha which is the origin of the legend Lak Phra and faith in Buddhism in southern society. (2) Meaning related to the monarchy and gods who is like a deity and is the patron saint of religions and gods influenced by Brahmanism-Hinduism and references from Buddhist legends. (3) Meaning related to tourism promotion and local identity that represents inviting tourists to visit Songkhla during various festivals. (4) Meaning related to the serpent which is a belief related to Buddhist society and southern society.
