An Integrated Learning of Communication Arts through Community Research

Abstract

This Research article aimed to introduce how to make an Integrated Learning of Communication Arts through Community Research by employing a participatory learning from students. The field-research studied groups of students and communities within the area of the research projects. It is revealed that students have learnt the course’s content in order according to Bloom’s Taxonomy which helped students improvising theoretical knowledge of communications as well as practical skills that would be useful for them in their future career. It is found that the students have shown their integrated learning through the adaptation of the course’s content on 6 areas of language studies which include 1) Community language 2) Paralanguage 3) Time language 4) Space language 5) Body language and 6) Object language. All of these have been integrated on the study of Mirroring-languages technique, Matching-languages technique, Community’s identity, Community relations, and Characteristics of community-relation practitioner. As for an evaluation of the students’ language performances, it is found that 4 categories of evaluation can be used which include 1) the volume of data collected 2) the cover of topics interviewed 3) the time of communication spent and 4) the cover area of data collecting. The study found that each group of students has shown different levels of language performances as they had different obstacles and limitations on an adaptation of knowledge learnt from the course, and this finding could be used for an improvement of the study.
