Value and Importance of Wetland Thai People Should Know

Abstract

        Wetland and ways of life of human beings are closely related. It can be seen that wetland is valuable and important to human beings in numerous ways. It is a source of water that is used to cure human body and life, consume and use in agriculture, industry and transportation and produce electric power. It protects land from intruding sea water. It is used for rites and rituals, traditions, sports and recreation purposes. Wetland serves as a source of food, a birth place of community and human civilization, human heritage, learning and research, natural resource, local plant and animal habitats, bio- energy source, tourism resource, minerals and water storing source. It helps prevent flood, keep stability of coastline, nature, prosperity of ecology and safety. Wetland also plays a role in economic development. It is very important for Thai people to learn and realize sustainable ways in using such precious wetland.
