Verb–noun Compounds words in Thai

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the structures, syntax and semantic of Noun-incorporation Compound Verbs Thai according to the Functional- Typological Approach. The Information for the study is gathered from word which appeared in Thai Dictionary (Royal Society Version B.E. 2542), New Words Thai Dictionary (Royal Society Volume 1, 2 and 3) and daily life conversation by considering in the derivative words (presented with bold letters) of the main verb in the sentences. The study found 1,541 noun-incorporation compound verbs in Thai which can be divided into 8 types of noun-incorporation compound verbs namely; verb phrases-noun phrases, noun phrases-verb phrases, verb phrases-verb phrases, verb phrases-prepositional phrases, noun phrases-verb phrases-noun phrases, negative-relation of participle to verbs-noun phrases, conjunctions-sentences and verb phrases-sentences. The study also found 16 syntax’s patterns of noun-incorporation compound verbs which are main verb-direct object, negative-main verb-direct object, main verb-adverb, subject-main verb, subject-main verb- adverb, subject-adverb-main verb, direct object-main verb, direct object-main verb-adverb, serial verb, main verb-adverb, semi-syntactic verb-semi-syntactic verb, main verb-indirect object, subject-main verb-direct object, main verb-sub ordinate verb, conjunction-sentences, negative-copular verb-noun. Finally, there are 30 semantic patterns for noun-incorporation compound verbs which are verb-patient, verb-experiencer, event verb-location, action verb-instrument, negative-stative verb- patient, verb-time, patient-verb, agent-verb, patient of state-verb-manner, patient-manner-verb, patient of change-verb, patient of change-verb-manner, co-coding serial verb, direction verb-active verb, verb-manner-active verb, action verb-intention, action verb-purpose, action verb-result verb, verb-source, verb-position, verb-destination, compound verb with similar meaning morpheme, verb–indirect place object, verb–indirect tool object, verb–indirect patient object, agent-verb-patient, verb–manipulating verb in succeeding, verb–manipulating verb in trying aspect, preposition of time-situation-event and negative-copular verb- patient.
