A Model of the Elder-Friendly Prototype Community

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the context of community in caring services and encouragement for the elders 2) to development a model of the elder-friendly prototype community and 3) to evaluate a model of the elder-friendly prototype community. The research methodology used mixing qualitative and quantitative methods. The research instruments were interview form and group interviews. The data was analyzed by the qualitative content analysis. The questionnaires used quantitative data from 181 elderly people (over 60 years of age) in Kampaengsao, Muang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat. The statistics using for analysis were percentage, mean, and standard deviation.

The results of this study were the elder had some congenital disease because the elders do   not have enough health literacy including the their children had to work outside and far from home and the organization cannot take care thoroughly. Researcher had developed a model of the elder-friendly prototype community consisted 4 processes 1)caring and encouraging about physical and mental, 2)caring and encouraging about food and nutrition, 3) caring and encouraging about exercise, and 4)caringand encouraging  residence and environment . The evaluation result was can apply in caring and encouraging the elders. Then, it can be the learning resource or a model of the good implementation for the community.
