THE EFFICIENTLY OF PRACTICE BOOK (DELIBERATE PRACTICE BY ANDERS ERICSSON) FOR VIOLA STUDENT VOCATIONAL CERTIFICATE LEVEL 1, THE COLLEGE OF DRAMATIC ARTS, 2020

Abstract

This research objectives are 1) To Study the Anders Ericsson’s theory of deliberate practice 2) To create and study the efficiency of Anders Ericsson’s deliberate practice book for first year vocational school students, majoring Viola of The College of Dramatic Arts (3) To Study opinions on deliberate practice book of first year vocational school students, majoring in Viola at The College of Dramatic Arts. Qualitative and quantitative research methods are used as tools of this research. Qualitative research method is used to create tools and experimental research with single - case experiment design is used as quantitative research method. The research population is 6 first year vocational school students, majoring in Viola of The College of Dramatic Arts in academic year 2020. The tools used in this research are (1) Deliberate practice book (2) Study achievement evaluation form (3) Opinion and satisfaction evaluation form. The study reveals that 1) Anders Ericsson’s theory of deliberate practice consists of determining goals clearly, planning specifically, focusing on music practice, listening to expert’s Feedback, playing a song harder than one’s own ability, keeping one’s motive. The researcher selected clear goal determination to create the deliberate practice book. 2) The deliberate practice book created by the researcher has been verified by experts resulting in Index of Consistency: IOC of 0.90, above the specified threshold of 0.60. Result of using the deliberate practice book, 5 out of 6 students show greater improvement which is in line with the hypothesis assuming 60% greater improvement, with only 1 student shows less improvement than the hypothesis. Total average is 83.90%. As a result, deliberate practice book and the use of deliberate practice book led to more frequency of practice among the sample students. 3) The study result of using the deliberate practice book is that all students find it very helpful to them for they can plan to practice with clear goals and do more.
