LANGUAGE AND CUlTURE OF LAO KRANG COMMUNITY IN PHICHIT PROVINCE

Abstract

This research article aimed to propose the language and culture of Lao Krang community in Phichit province. This was a qualitative research based on data collected from language speakers and Thai textbooks. The research methods were 1) sampling of Lao Krang and Thai language vocabularies, 2) seeking key informants about Lao Krang language, 3) to collect information on Lao Krang vocabularies consisted of vocabularies and other words, 4) study Lao Krang vocabulary and Thai vocabularies. Results indicated that Lao Krang is a Lao Phu Klang language belonging to the Tai-Kadai language family. The dialect of the minority that is spoken in Ban Sa Yai Chee, Chet Hap Village, Noen Por Sub-district, Nong Sanoo Sub-district, Sam Ngam District, Phichit Province. The way of life of the Lao Krang community in Phichit Province consisted of music, weaving, ordination traditions, wedding traditions, the dress of the Lao Krang people, ritual tradition, and beliefs of Sart Lao traditions, etc. The analysis of Lao Krang language in Phichit province were questions about 13 language characteristics, namely 1) humans, 2) plants, 3) animals, 4) bodies, 5) emotions, 6) communication, 7) Livelihood, 8) Progress, 9) Religion, rituals, traditions and culture, 10) gestures, movements, 11) characteristics, qualities, number, 12) names of relatives, and 13) names of monks novices.
