Abstract

Many have agreed that education needs to adapt to changing needs of the future workplace. These future needs are often termed as Future Skills or 21st Century Skills or Competencies, which prepare learners for new challenges brought about by the future. Although past literature reviews on Future Skills have tried to synthesize the results of many studies on this topic, no literature review has focused exclusively upon Future Skills for the new generation, which urgently requires these skills to be able to work in the future workplace. This research integrated the knowledge gained from the many studies on Future Skills for new generation and synthesized a more comprehensible and approachable framework which can be used to define Future Skills for new generation. This research is secondary research and uses scoping review methodology to review the 46 relevant studies on Future Skills for new generation, which together identified 530 skills necessary for the new generation to succeed in the future workplace. The data extracted from these studies were analyzed using thematic analysis and then synthesized into a framework of seven categories of Future Skills for new generation. Policy makers and practitioners in educational sector can use this framework to prepare new generation for the challenging future.
