Abstract

This study aimed to 1) develop the ability in pronouncing English unstressed syllables of English major students who were taught through English camp activities and    2) to conduct a survey for the satisfaction of the students with group work in creating English camp activities for improving pronunciation skills in English vocabulary. The sample of the students were thirty English major students at Phranakhon Rajabhat University who registered “English Phonetics” in the second semester of 2016 selected by the Simple Random Sampling technique. The research instruments consisted of 1) a course outline    2) a pretest and a posttest on pronunciation of unstressed syllables 3) pronunciation observation form and 4) a questionnaire for gaining students’ satisfaction towards the activities used to promote English pronunciation through English camp. The statistics used for analyzing data were means and standard deviation (SD.). To compare the students’ pretest and posttest achievement score of unstressed syllables in English through English Camp activities, t-test for dependent sample was used.  At the first week of experiment, the pretest was administered to the students. The students were assigned a group project that promoted the students’ ability of English pronunciation. At the fourth week, they were requested to present this task. Then, these group projects were used at the English Camp. Finally, students did the posttest.


      The findings revealed that the overall ability of the students in pronouncing English unstressed syllables after using English camp activities was better than before using English camp activities at the 0.05 level of significance. And the overall satisfaction of the students with group work in creating English camp activities for improving pronunciation skills in English vocabulary was at a high level.
