Development of Constructivism-Based Massive Open Online Learning Environments on Dementia Prevention for Higher Education Students

Abstract

This research was a research and development study aimed to: 1) develop a constructivist-based massive open online learning environment (MOOC) for the course “Dementia Prevention” for higher education students; 2) compare students’ learning achievement before and after learning; and 3) investigate students’ satisfaction with the developed learning environment. The sample consisted of university students enrolled in the course via the Thai MOOC platform. Research instruments included the developed learning environment with seven learning units, a learning achievement test, and a satisfaction questionnaire. The study employed a one-group pre-test post-test design. All instruments were validated by experts. The achievement test showed discrimination indices ranging from 0.34 to 0.57, difficulty indices from 0.27 to 0.75, and a reliability coefficient of 0.71. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and t-test.


            The results showed that students’ post-test scores were significantly higher than their pre-test scores at the .01 level (t = 11.04, p < .01). Students’ overall satisfaction with the learning environment was at the highest level.
