The Understanding of the Role of Audience Council of Thai Public Broadcasting Service in Northern Region, Thailand

Abstract
The article presents qualitative study on the understanding of audience council’s roles in the North Region. It employs three main methods: in-depth interview, activity observation, and documentary study, and uses thematic analysis. There are two main findings. (1) the understanding on structure, which related to audience council’s roles in the North Region, based primarily on participatory communication from civic sectors, and (2) the understanding on practice of audience council’s role in North Region which concerned not only the role of gathering public opinion, expanding and maintaining audience network, and submitting reports but also paying attention to the role of mediator and the role of citizen journalist.
