Abstract
This article is part of the research on Civil Contentious Political Communication in Thailand during October 30, 2013 - May 22, 2014. The objectives are to study Civil Contentious Political Communication led by Suthep Tuangsuban, a former secretary-general of the Democrat Party and Member of Parliament to oust the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and to finalize a contentious political communication model accordingly. This analysis applied Tilly and Tarrow’s contentious political concept and Tarrow’s power in movement but focused on communicational power only. The researcher used qualitative research techniques and applied the purposive sampling method to collecte data from 90 videos of Suthep’s political communication speeches, documents (both printed and online) and 16 in-depth interviews with major actors in this contentious political communication, together with participant observations. The data analysis was done after data deduction through hermenuctics interpretation. The civil contentious political communication in this research could be divided into 3 stages which were protesting against a draft amnesty bill, overthrowing Thaksin regime and establishing political reform. The contentious political communication model was developed from the contention of Thaksin’s political influences and was triggered by a draft amnesty bill, followed by the declaration of movement, and calls for supports, then escalated to collective mobilization, collective power testing and organizational launching and finally, contentious politics performance intergration.
