Abstract

The study aimed to investigate English collocations in Covid-19 related news from English newspapers in Thailand (Bangkok Post and The Nation) through corpus linguistic. The focus was on the use of “have, get, take, and give” with two types of collocations: (1) verb+noun and (2) phrasal verb. The instruments used were two English language dictionaries which were Oxford Collocations Dictionary for Students of English (2008) and Longman Phrasal Verbs Dictionary (2000) and the AntConc 3.5.9 program. The collected data were coded according to the collocational framework of Lewis (2000) using the AntConc 3.5.9 program for two types of collocations. The findings showed that there were 109 English collocations with have, get, take, and give found in both newspapers which was equal to 0.06% from which the entire 187,992 words were counted. Of these collocative words, however, 52 words (47.71%) were found in The Bangkok Post and 57 words (52.29%) were found in The Nation.
