Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effects of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) offered via online counseling to enhance debt-related self-control among Generation Y individuals with debt problems. The sample consisted of 20 Generation Y individuals with debt, divided into an experimental group (n=10) and a control group (n=10). The research instruments included the Debt-Related Self-Control Questionnaire (12 items) and the SFBT Online Counseling Program for Enhancing Debt-Related Self-Control among Generation Y, developed by the researcher. The experimental group participated in six counseling sessions, each lasting 45–60 minutes, while the control group received no intervention. Debt-related self-control was measured at three stages: pre-test, post-test, and follow-up. Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) with one between-subjects variable and one within-subjects variable. Pairwise comparisons were performed using the Bonferroni method when significant differences were found. The results revealed that Generation Y individuals with debt who received the SFBT online counseling program demonstrated a statistically significant increase in debt-related self-control at the follow-up stages compared to the pre-test stage (p<.05). Furthermore, the experimental group showed a statistically significant increase in debt-related self-control compared to the control group at both the post-test and follow-up stages (p<.05). In conclusion, SFBT online counseling is effective in enhancing debt-related self-control among Generation Y individuals with debt problems.
