PEOPLE PARTICIPATION IN TOURISM DESTINATION DEVELOPMENT : A CASE STUDY OF AMPHAWA FLOATING MARKET AMPHAWA DISTRICT, SAMUT SONGKHRAM PROVINCE

ABSTRACT
The research on the people participation in the tourist destination development at Amphawa Floating Market aimed to study the people’s participation levels in order to test the differences of the factors affecting such matter as well as to explore the venues to motivate the people’s participation in developing the tourist destination at Amphawa Floating Market, Samut Songkhram Province. In this study, the survey research was conducted to collect the data through the distributed questionnaires among 219 households selected by the lottery.
The findings suggest that most samples participated less in developing the tourist destination at Amphawa Floating Market, with the statistically significant level of 0.05. The factors affecting the said development comprised age, educational level, primary occupation, secondary occupation, income from primary and secondary occupation, length of staying in the community, and the floating market resource values. This research recommends giving more attention conservation matters by promoting the conservation value and educating the general public on the benefits from developing the tourist destination. In addition, other occupational developments and attractive merchandises at Amphawa Floating Market should be the topics for further studies.
