The study of teaching management of short-term vocational program major in music at Polytechnic College in Bangkok

The purpose of this qualitative research to 1). Study teaching management of short-term vocational program, major in music at Polytechnic College in Bangkok. 2).Study the problems and obstacles of teaching management of short-term vocational program , major in music at Polytechnic College in Bangkok for 5 sides included 1)Teaching program 2)Teachers and learners 3)Teaching activities 4)Media, equipment and location 5)Evaluation By studying the information from the document, semi-structural interview and uninterrupted observation from a music teacher at Phra Nakhon Polytechnic College and 4 students, 2 music teachers at Thon Buri Polytechnic College and 8 students.
The result of study found that 1). Teaching management, most of teachers graduated in Bachelor degree major in music, teaching experience during 20-30 years. Teachers arrange teaching individually, use Learning by Doing. Most of learners without any basic knowledge of music so the teachers start teaching from theory according to the topic in the study papers and into action later. By focusing on the development of individual students with teaching activities to demonstrate competence in activities at the college. Media and music equipment have a complete and standard quality learners with evaluation all of teaching process. With the exam conditions grading at the discretion of teachers by testing the development of individual practice skills. 2). The problems and obstacles of teaching management found that the teaching management of short-term vocational program is highly flexible. Because the short-term vocational program is open to the general public able to learn regardless of age and gender. Most of students will spend time of training in class, the students do not have personal instruments. The musical instruments currently used in teaching management are not up date because too old, teaching room not suitable for some types of musical instruments and no single classroom for instruments because the place of study is limited, teachers test and evaluation the students individually. In each examination and grading depend on the discretion of teachers.
