How to Measure Research Outcome and Impact: The Case Study of Mahidol University International College
Keywords:
Measurement, Outcome and Impact, ResearchAbstract
The study aims to analyze the characteristics, process, and measure method for research outcome and impact of Mahidol University International College. The results of the study would support and be beneficial to the research administration and management in order to align with the strategy of the college, Mahidol University, and the national level in term of importance of research impact. This study applies the qualitative research method by using secondary data from related sources to analyze content (content analysis) to find appropriate criteria of research outcome and impact measurement for the college. The study found that standard or full process of measurement is not suitable for the college’s context. It would be better if the evaluation process would focus on the final stage of research, including the research utilization, which is a goal-free evaluation. The values assessment should emphasize on overall research results (actual outcomes), which is expected and unexpected research goals or objectives. In addition, the findings of this study contribute to the creation and development of measurement matrix that will be adopted in the research outcome and impact measurement of the college.
