Proposded Guidelines for the Promotion of A Learning Process of Health Literate Organizations for Non-Communicable Disease Prevention

Abstract

The research aims to 1) study factors and conditions of health literacy organizations (HLOs) both domestically and internationally, 2) analyze the Health Literacy learning process to prevent chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in HLOs, and 3) propose guidelines for promoting the Health Literacy learning process to prevent NCDs in HLOs. By recommendations of experts in HLOs, the study employed qualitative research methods by purposive sampling to examine online documents of HLOs in Thailand and abroad that had advocated health promotion policies and that working-age individuals are facing behavioral risks leading to NCDs. Furthermore, field studies on the Health Literacy learning process for preventing chronic NCDs were conducted in 4 HLOs both in the public and private sectors, including 1) the Urban Health Development Institute under the Ministry of Public Health, 2) S and P Syndicate Public Company Limited, 3) PTT Public Company Limited, and 4) Thai Cement Public Company Limited. The guidelines for promoting the Health Literacy learning process to prevent chronic NCDs in HLOs are outlined and proposed with suggestions from 7 experts in Health Literacy obtained through focus group discussions.
