This research was documentary research of the romance novel named Suppaesanniwas of Rompang, 2 0 1 0 . The criteria of the study were set by selecting only the male character, Phra Sri Visansunthorn, and the data was presented as descriptive analysis.
The concept of this research was based on Marie Richmond-Abbott analysis as the framework, in addition. From the results of the research, it was
found that the creation of a male character in the romance novel entitled Suppaesanniwas of Rompang presented the masculinity of society in the past
and supported the definition of masculinity in modern society. It was found that, at the beginning of the story, the male character clearly presented the oldfashioned masculinity whether it was the power of men, the physical and muscular strength which reflected the masculinity and power, the behavior of
being in a male only group looking at women as outsiders, including the attitude of looking and dividing women into good or bad. However, later on,
the masculinity of the main male character changed to reflect the new-style masculinity, it reduced the individuality of men in some matters such as
emotional sensitivity and revealing these emotional feelings to women, as well as marrying a woman because of love and treating her as an equal. It could be
said, that the variety of masculinity presented in the Buppaesanniwas Novel was in accordance with the existing masculinity in society in some levels, and
it could be observed that masculinity of men in society today was more variety than those in the past. Although the old-fashioned masculinity was still
influential in today's society, but the image of the new masculinity was
presented simultaneously.
