The Development of Number Sense Test for Prathomsuksa 6 Students under the Ratchaburi Primary Educational Service Area Office 1

Abstract

The main purpose of this research was to develop the number sense test for prathomsuksa 6 students. The specific objectives were 1) to construct the number sense test for prathomsuksa 6 students; 2) to validate the number sense test for prathomsuksa 6 students; 3) to establish local norms of the number sense test for prathomsuksa 6. All samples were prathomsuksa 6 students who studies in Ratchaburi Primary Educational Service Area Office 1 in the second semester, academic years 2016. Data were collected from 364 samples by using multistage random sampling method. The research results showed that the number sense test was subjective test is composed 7 components: understanding of ordinal and cardinal number, understanding of number relationships, understanding of number magnitude, operations involving numbers, referents for numbers and quantity, mental math ability and estimation ability. There are 3 questions in each factor, including the number of all are 21 questions. The results of analysis are showed that the item objective congruence Index (IOC) between 0.60-1.00. Difficulty index between 0.39-0.69. Discrimination index between 0.26-0.87. Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient for each factor was 0.715 0.704 0.706 0.717 0.739 0.745 and 0.810 respectively, and for the whole test was 0.897. The construct validity of the measure of the number sense test well. ( = 270.41, df = 139, p = 0.00, RMSEA = 0.051, GFI= 0.93) Norm for the whole test was between T28-T71.
