Analysis and Study of Compliance Levels to Buddhist Economics in social studies Textbooks

Abstract

This study was the survey study and the purposes of the study were 1) to analyze Buddhist Economics Principles as appeared in the Social Studies Texts. 2) to study Practice Levels according to Buddhist Economics Principles. The sample. were students at upper secondary education level in Chiang Mai province, including: YuppharachaWitthayalai School and Wattanothaipayap School. In Lamphur Province including: Chakkhamkhanathon School and Suanbunyopatham School. The instruments were: Social Studies Text Analysis Forms and the questionnaires asking about practice lavels according to Buddhist Economics Principles. The data was analyzed by the following statistics values: Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation. The results were as follows: The analysis of Buddhist Economics Principles as appeared in the Social Studies Texts consisted of 1)Thitakathammikathaprayot Principle 2) SammaAjiva Principle which is one of Magga or The Noble Eightfold Path 3) The Happiness of the Householder Principle 4) PhokhaArthiya or Phokhathiya Principle 5) Devotional Principle 6) Economic Practices in Buddhism 7) Solitude and Sufficiency Principles. From the questionnaires asking about practice levels according to Buddhist Economics Principles in the Social Studies Text, the result was found that overall the students applied the principles in their daily lives at the very good level. When considered item by item, it was found that students applied Solitude and Sufficiency Principles the most with mean of 3.52 and Standard Deviation of 0.52.
