The Characteristics Development Model for the 21st Century Teacher in Private Schools in Chaiyaphum Province

Abstract

This is a research and development that aims to: 1) examine the current state of the 21st century teacher’s characteristics in private schools in Chaiyaphum province; 2) create the characteristics development model for the 21st century teacher in those private schools; and 3) affirm the outcome after trying out the model in those private schools. The research methodology was classified into 3 phases in which each phase was conducted on each sample group; namely, Phase 1: 50 teachers  were examined to define the current state of the 21st teacher’s characteristics; Phase 2: 7 experts drafted the development  model; and Phase 3: 50 teachers were assigned to complete the evaluation form on the characteristics development  model. The statistics for data analysis were percentage, mean , and standard deviation.


The research outcome indicated that there were 8 characteristics of the 21st century teachers found in private schools in Chaiyaphum province including: “Personal development  as a learning person”, “Proficient teaching skill and learning management, Love and faith in teaching profession, Virtuous personality, Good evaluator, An ability to use a variety of technology, Good communicative skill, Knowledge in the assigned subject. These characteristics were demonstrated at a moderate level.


It was also confirmed that the training program for the 21st century teacher’s characteristics development in private schools in Chaiyaphum province was mostly appropriate in terms of the key content, objectives, time, activities, as well as media and equipment. Similarly, all of 8 activities provided in the training program were mostly appropriate. 


The participant’s satisfaction on the training program for the 21st century teacher’s characteristics development was rated with a highest score.


Before training, the teacher’s characteristics in those 8 characteristics were presented at a moderate level. Surprisingly after training, their characteristics were raised to the highest level for all of those 8 characteristics. The difference of their scores was statistically significant (.05).
