Developing a Community Participation Model of Recreation, Tourism, and Sport Activities for Tha Kanun Subdistrict, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province

Abstract
The research aimed to 1) study the situation and potential of organizing recreation, tourism, and sport activities in Tha Kanun subdistrict, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province, 2) develop a community participation model of recreation, sport, and tourism activities for Tha Kanun subdistrict, and 3) try the developed model out and evaluate its appropriateness and usefulness. This research employed a research and development method and the key informants included 1) community leaders and community member representatives, 2) experimental participants of the developed model, and 3) key local stakeholders including representatives of public and private sector organizations and academics. All in all, this research found that (a) Tha Kanun subdistrict had several tourist attractions and readiness and had high potential to be developed as recreation, tourism, and sport destinations in Kanchanaburi Province, (b) a community participation model of recreation, sport, and tourism activities for Tha Kanun subdistrict was developed and called Tha Kanun Model, which consisted of 6 elements, namely P-H-U-M-E-E (P: participation, H: history, U: utility, M: management, E: enjoyment, and E: experience), (c) the experimental participants had a high level of satisfaction on Tha Kanun Model in all aspects, and (d) the results of the final review and evaluation of Tha Kanun Model revealed that this model should be further applied in other areas, as well as take tourist health, safety, and well-being into account.
