บทคัดย่อ
วัยเด็กในฐานะภาพพจน์เปรียบเทียบทางวรรณกรรมมักถูกทำให้ยวนใจ เปรียบเสมือนช่วงเวลาที่ควรทะนุถนอมและปกป้อง ศิลปินและกวีต้องปรับปรุงภาพพจน์เปรียบเทียบของวัยเด็กเพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับวัยเด็กของตนในการนำเสนอวัยเด็กในฐานะประสบการณ์การใช้ชีวิตจริง วัยเด็กในไอร์แลนด์ได้รับอิทธิพลทางการเมืองโดยหลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้ ทำให้การนำเสนอวัยเด็กในไอร์แลนด์ในฐานะภาพพจน์เปรียบเทียบท้าทายกวีหลากหลายรุ่นในการต่อรองและปรับปรุงภาพพจน์เปรียบเทียบตามขนบวรรณกรรม ประวัติศาสตร์ และอัตลักษณ์แห่งชาติ
การศึกษานี้มุ่งเน้นสำรวจบทกวีคัดสรรบางส่วนที่เกี่ยวกับวัยเด็กของกวีไอริชร่วมสมัย ได้แก่ เชมัส ฮีนีย์ และ พอล มัลดูน ตามกระบวนการอ่านละเอียดภาพพจน์เปรียบเทียบของวัยเด็กในไอร์แลนด์ตามอรรถปริวรรตศาสตร์ ผลการวิเคราะห์แสดงให้เห็นว่า กวีถ่ายทอดประสบการณ์วัยเด็กหลังการแยกเป็นเอกราชของไอร์แลนด์ผ่านจินตภาพที่เน้นภูมิหลังทางการเกษตร และวิถีชีวิตตามชนบทในไอร์แลนด์เป็นหลัก เมื่อจินตภาพเหล่านี้ถูกวิเคราะห์เข้ากับบริบทางประวัติศาสตร์และความไม่สงบการเมืองของไอร์แลนด์ บทกลอนเหล่านี้เผยให้เห็นว่า ความผิดหวังที่มาพร้อมกับความทรงจำวัยเด็กนั้นกลับเป็นแหล่งสร้างแรงบันดาลให้กับกวีทั้งคู่
