A STUDY OF ENGLISH ACHIEVEMENT AND THE ABILITY OF READING FOR MAIN IDEA OF GRADE 7 STUDENTS USING SQ4R METHOD WITH MULTI-PART STRATEGY

Abstract

The purposes of the research were 1) to compare the English learning achievement of Grade 7 students before and after using SQ4R Method with Multi-Part Strategy as well as after using SQ4R Method with Multi-Part Strategy and the criterion score of 70% and 2) to compare the ability of reading for main idea of Grade 7 students before and after using SQ4R Method with Multi-Part Strategy. The samples were 30 Grade 7 students in Yothinnukun School under Nong Phai Lom Muticipality, Muang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province in the first semester of academic year 2018. The research instruments were consists of lesson plans, the learning achievement test and the ability of reading for main idea test. The data was analyzed by mean (), standard deviation (S.D.), percentage, and t-test

The findings of the research were as follows :

1. The English learning achievement score of Grade 7 students after using SQ4R Method with Multi-Part Strategy was statistic significantly higher than that one before using at the .05 level and after using SQ4R Method with Multi-Part Strategy was not statistic significantly higher than the criterion score of 70% at the .05 level.     
2. The ability of reading for main idea score of Grade 7 students after using SQ4R Method with Multi-Part Strategy was statistic significantly higher than that one before using at the .05 level.
