Development of an English Communication Handbook for Local Fabric Distributors in Ubon Ratchathani Province

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the modified priority needs index (PNImodified) of the English communication skills of the local fabric distributors in Ubon Ratchathani Province, 2) to create an English communication handbook for the local fabric distributors in Ubon Ratchathani Province, and 3) to study the satisfaction after using the English communication handbook for the local fabric distributors in Ubon Ratchathani Province. The samples were 16 local fabric distributors selected by purposive sampling. The research instruments were an English communication handbook for the local fabric distributors in Ubon Ratchathani Province, a questionnaire asking for the modified priority needs index (PNImodified) of the English communication of the local fabric distributors in Ubon Ratchathani Province, and a questionnaire asking for the satisfaction of the distributors in Ubon Ratchathani Province toward the English communication handbook. The statistics used in this research were percentage, mean, and standard deviation.
The research findings were as follows.
1. The modified priority needs index (PNImodified) of the English communication skills of the local fabric distributors in Ubon Ratchathani Province in the overall of the speaking and listening skills was at the same value of 0.69. This value showed that the local fabric distributors needed urgently to develop English communication skills.
2.The English communication handbook consisted of 10 Units: 1) greeting customers, 2) asking for prices and paying for the products, 3) talking about bargaining, 4) speaking about the general characteristics of the products, 5) introducing the origin of the goods and products, 6) speaking about the production methods of the products, 7) speaking about the components of the products, 8) talking about the uniqueness of the products, 9) storing the products, and 10) product distribution sources.
3.The findings of the evaluation of the satisfaction after using the English communication handbooks showed that in the overall, the local fabric distributors were satisfied in the handbook design, contents, and beneficial usage at the highest level with the means of 4.60, 4.64, and 4.65, respectively.
