Factors Affecting the Students’ Decision to Study in the Bachelor of Education Program, Physical Education Major, Faculty of Education, National Sports University, the Northeastern Campus

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study and compare factors affecting the students’ decision to study the Bachelor of Education Program, Physical Education Major, Faculty of Education, National Sports University, the Northeastern Campus. The samples were 199 freshmen students studying in the physical education major. They were randomized by stratified sampling based on proportion. The research instrument was a questionnaire created by the researcher with the reliability of .91. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one–way ANOVA, and pairwise comparisons using the LSD procedure.
The research findings were as follows.
1. The mean of the opinions about the factors affecting the students’ decision to study the Bachelor of Education Program, Physical Education Major, Faculty of Education, National Sports University, the Northeastern Campus in the overall was at a high level (x̄ = 3.73). When the aspects were considered, the findings showed that the equipment and places, the lecturers, the images of the university, and the curriculum were at a high level ( x̄ = 3.84, 3.82, 3.76, and 3.73, respectively) while the public relations had the mean at a moderate level (x̄ = 3.47).
2. The findings of the comparison of the opinions about the factors affecting the students’ decision to study the Bachelor of Education Program, Physical Education Major, Faculty of Education, National Sports University, the Northeastern Campus between male and female students showed that the mean of the opinions was at a high level (x̄ = 3.69, 3.77). In the overall, the means of the opinions between male and female students were not different. When the aspects were considered, the findings of the factors affecting the students’ decision to study showed that the curriculum and the equipment and places were not different while the images of the university, the public relations, and the lecturers were different with the statistical significance at the level of .05.
