Roles and Ethical Responsibilities of Editors
- Ensure the quality of submitted articles before presenting them to experts for evaluation and before publication.
- Check articles for plagiarism, duplication, or breaches of academic ethics.
- Evaluate articles based on academic merit, accuracy, and relevance to the journal without bias.
- Maintain the confidentiality of authors' and reviewers' information.
- Facilitate a peer review process to ensure high-quality articles.
- Choose reviewers with expertise in relevant fields who have no conflicts of interest with the authors.
- Avoid altering article content or reviewer evaluations and ensure transparency in communications between reviewers and authors.
Responsibilities of Editors Towards Authors
- Inform authors about the steps and processes involved in article evaluation.
- Clearly explain the journal’s guidelines, policies, and standards for article submission.
- Assess articles fairly, based on their quality and relevance to the journal's objectives.
- Provide authors with transparent updates on the article's evaluation status at every stage.
- Relay detailed and clear feedback from reviewers to authors.
- Keep personal information and article content under review confidential.
- Ensure no conflicts of interest exist between editors and authors or their articles.
- Clearly explain the reasons for rejection to help authors understand the shortcomings of their articles.
Responsibilities of Editors Towards Reviewers
- Select reviewers with expertise relevant to the article's content.
- Ensure reviewers have no conflicts of interest or personal relationships with the authors.
- Clearly communicate the objectives, guidelines, and criteria for article review.
- Provide reviewers with complete article information to facilitate their evaluation.
- Set clear timelines for article reviews and follow up without imposing undue pressure on reviewers.
- Keep reviewers' identities and feedback confidential.
- Support reviewers in providing honest, objective, and quality-focused feedback to improve articles.
Handling Complaints
If an author raises complaints about the review process, the editor must investigate and resolve the issue transparently, fairly, and promptly.
