Psychological and Situational Characteristics Correlating to Health Domestic Tourism Behavior of the Elderly

Abstract

The purposes of this study were: 1) to examine psychological and situational
characteristics correlating to health domestic tourism behavior of the elderly and 2)
to explore the correlation between situational factors, th e psychological
characteristics and psychosocial aspects of the situation to health domestic tourism
behavior of the elderly. 400 elderly samples living in Bangkok were used in the study.
The data were collected by questionnaire and then analyzed by percentage, mean
and standard deviation. Chi-square was used for the correlation data analysis.
The findings were as follows: 1) Psychological and situational characteristics
correlating to the factor of situation in overall level were reality in the recognition of
tourist attractions, the influence of the groups and accessing the information about
health tourism. The psychological characteristics in overall level were reality in
motivation, mental health and self-controlled manner in the future. The
psychosocial aspects of the situation in overall level were reality in good health
caring and self-reliance. 2) The correlation between situation factors, the
psychological characteristics and psychosocial aspects of the situation to health
domestic tourism behavior of the elderly consisted of the recognition of tourist
attractions, traveling companions, duration, time, transportation, accommodation and
expenditure in travel. The correlation between the psychological characteristics and
health domestic tourism behavior of the elderly consisted of travel companions,
transportation and accommodation. The correlation between psychosocial aspects
of the situation and health domestic tourism behavior of the elderly showed in
travel companions, transportation and accommodation.
