Abstract

The aim of this research is to survey amount of the structure of Chinese idiomatic phrases total 258 idioms, in the textbook “A Course in Chinese Colloquial Idioms” and document “HSK Spoken Idioms” which was obtained by a specific random method (Purposive Sampling). The tools used in this research are 5 structures therefore, The Verb-Object phrase, The Endocentric phrase, The Subject-Predicate phrase, The complementary phrase and the Coordinative phrase. In the study, the researcher analyzed the data by using dictionary of Chinese idiom to distinguish different types of words. Then has gathered the results of analysis data to evaluate for the percentage value to show results of research into numerical data. Using the formula for calculating the percentage.
The result of studying about Chinese idiomatic phrases that is in documents and textbooks found that in a total of 258 Chinese idiomatic phrases that use in daily life, there are 107 idioms in the Verb-Object phrase, 59 idioms in the Endocentric phrase, 18 idioms in the Subject-Predicate phrase, 22 idioms in the Complementary phrase, 43 idioms in the Coordinative phrase and 9 idioms in Sentence structure. The concluding can be that the largest number of Chinese idioms that the researcher found is in the Verb-Object phrase, amounted for 41.47 % of the total.
