A Study of Translation Methods in Anime from Japanese to Thai

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the translation methods in Anime titles by professional translators. The 50 anime titles in Anilist broadcasting between August and November 2020 were collected as data for analysis. The criteria for analysis were based on Russanee Masea et al. (2561). The findings showed that the new naming technique was most frequently found at 22 titles or 44 percent. Next was the transliteration technique which was found at 10 titles or 20 percent. The least frequently found were the partial translation technique and the direct translation technique which were equally found at 9 titles or 18 percent. The results revealed that the translators used the new naming technique the most because they could freely create titles based on the contexts and characters to make readers better understand the stories.
