สูกรมัททวะในทัศนะของเถรวาทและมหายาน

บทความวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความหมายและลักษณะของสูกรมัททวะซึ่งปรากฏอยู่ในคัมภีร์ของพุทธศาสนาเถรวาทและมหายาน โดยใช้วิธีวิจัยเชิงเอกสารจากพระไตรปิฎกและงานวิชาการที่เกี่ยวข้อง ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ในทัศนะของพุทธศาสนาเถรวาทและมหายาน สูกรมัททวะมีความหมาย 4 นัย ได้แก่ 1) เนื้อสุกร 2) หน่อไม้ไผ่หรือเห็ด 3) ข้าวสุกที่ปรุงโดยใช้เบญจโครส และ 4) ยาอายุวัฒนะ ซึ่งทั้งสองนิกายมีทัศนะสอดคล้องกันว่าสูกรมัททวะมีสรรพคุณทางยาในลักษณะเป็นยาอายุวัฒนะที่นายจุนทะตั้งใจปรุงมาถวายพระพุทธเจ้าและภิกษุบริวารด้วยสูตรปรุงยาเฉพาะพระองค์โดยหมายใจว่าจะช่วยบรรเทาพระอาการประชวรของพระพุทธเจ้า แต่อย่างไรก็ดี พุทธศาสนาทั้งสองฝ่ายยังมีทัศนะบางอย่างที่แตกต่างกัน กล่าวคือ ฝ่ายเถรวาทเห็นว่ายาดังกล่าวปรุงด้วยเนื้อสุกรผ่านกรรมวิธีทางเคมีที่ชื่อว่า รสายนวิธี ส่วนฝ่ายมหายานเห็นว่ายาดังกล่าวมีส่วนผสมของสมุนไพรที่มีชื่อพ้องกับสุกร
