Developing Chinese Phonetic Reading Skills by Using Reading Exercises among Grade 2, CESP Program, Wachirawit Chiang Mai School

Abstract

The purposes of this study are 1) to create and examine the correctness and appropriate of Chinese phonetic reading practice exercises for Phathom Suksa 2 Students, CASP program, Wachirawit Chiang Mai School and 2) to study the results of developing Chinese phonetic reading skills by using the Chinese phonetic reading practice exercises. The target group is nine students in CESP program, Prathom Suksa 2, in the first semester, academic year 2022, Wachirawit Chiang Mai School. The instruments are seven packages of Chinese phonetic reading practice exercises and the phonetic reading test of Chinese phonetic reading Language. The data analysis is performed by using mean, percentage, and standard deviation.

The finding reveals that 1) the Chinese phonetic reading practice exercises have correctness and appropriation in the most level with an average score of 4.8 points. 2) Learning achievement of the Phathom Suksa 2 students after using the Chinese phonetic reading practice exercises is 86 percent which is higher than the setting criteria at 60 percent and the average of Chinese phonetic reading scores after studying by the reading practice exercises is higher than before studying at 53 percent and the average scores of summative test is at 86 percent. Furthermore, the average scores during study test of all seven packages of Chinese phonetic practice exercise is 85.7 percent and the average scores of summative test is at 86.7 percent. The body of knowledge indicates that the important factor in improving the Chinese phonetic reading skill is a practice with the help of a teacher. Teachers should explain how to pronounce different sounds in the text, especially on words that are difficult to pronounce so that the students will be easy to practice. In addition, using beautiful images to attract attention in practice makes students interested in learning and understanding and can learn to pronounce and express.
