The Problem Statement and Solution of Thai Youths’ Pronunciations of ‘/rɔ/’, ‘/lɔ/’, and Diphthongs

Abstract

          This article aims to solve the problem of Thai pronunciation of ‘rɔ’, ‘lɔ’, and diphthongs in speaking and writing skills through study the causes and solution approaches of using the incorrect words of Thai youths. The causes of problem are related to social behavior into four groups in the followings: 1) speakers’ or teenagers’ group followed friends; 2) imitated group followed favorite stars’ voice; 3) family group; 4) silent reading group. The problem-solution approaches consist of four aspects: 1) searching a Thai using prototype that is able to demonstrate; 2) creating the faith in using Thai; 3) training or doing the exercise; 4) finding to stages to gain an experience. The trainings of language skill to understand grammatical rules consist of eight forms: 1) to remind the meanings of the words; 2) to pronounce the sentences or poems; 3) to evaluate the pronunciation correctly by friends; 4) to sing a song properly; 5) to record voice message; 6) to be actor in a drama; 7) to use instruments for training; 8) to use the pronounceable forms; and 9) to train to be expert. All are to solve the problems of Thai youths so that they are able to pay the roles and responsibilities as a Thai citizen to maintain the heritage of language forever. The new body of knowledge indicates that the youths have to consider in the followings: 1) the words as particular meanings; 2) the words as homonyms but different meanings; and 3) the words as pronunciation incorrectly make people misunderstood.
