The Model of Human Trafficking Prevention and Suppression

Abstract

          The research aims to study the prevention and suppression strategies of human trafficking and to develop an appropriate model in order to prevent and suppress human trafficking in the border of Chiang Rai province. The research is conducted in the area of Mae Sai district, Chiang Saen district, and Chiang Khong district. This research is based on questionnaire and group discussion.

          The results reveal that the current situation of human trafficking in Chiang Rai province is illegal immigrants, industrial establishments, illegal entertainment services, and illegal immigrant. The prevention strategies to get rid of human trafficking at high level are that 1) the development of policy machinery and the enhancement of human trafficking prevention; 2) serious and clear human trafficking proceeding; 3) the prevention in terms of decreasing risk factors by educating the target groups and creating the connection in monitoring as well as increasing the efficiency in examine the risk groups; 4) protection and help of the victims in human trafficking in terms of increasing efficiency of separate victims fast and justly; 5) the cooperative development in terms of cooperative creation in both of country and different countries are at the highest level. The appropriate model in order to prevent and suppress human trafficking of Chiang Rai province should have the management model that is appropriate with the context of the area, the government and related organizations should place importance on creating coordination of different organizations in community, integrating cooperation, communication, being aware of media. Legal strategies should be changed according to the context of “being border”. In addition, the legal proceeding of the persons who related to human trafficking should increase penalty of offenders in order to examine the persons who are going to commit human trafficking.
