THE SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF THE INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE (ICH) THROUGH A COMMUNITY-BASED APPROACH : GUIDELINES FOR GOVERNMENT POLICY MAKING FROM A COMMUNITY-BASED APPROACH

Abstract

This academic article presented the results of a project focused on the sustainable management of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) through a community-based approach. The project aimed to raise awareness among children, youth, and the general public about the value and significance of ICH, fostering their active participation in preserving and promoting local heritage. By doing so, it strived to prevent the loss of cultural heritage while enabling its development into products that supported local economies. The project involved stakeholders such as entrepreneurs, civil society, educational institutions, students, and community members in activities designed to exchange knowledge and ideas. It encompassed
11 cultural heritage elements in six provinces across various regions. Fieldwork indicated that the sustainable preservation of ICH requires active local engagement, collaboration with partner networks, and adaptation to changing social contexts using local resources. Key policy recommendations included promoting cultural products, integrating culture into education, advancing cultural tourism, leveraging technology and social media, enhancing community participation, and strengthening public-private cooperation. These strategies aim to ensure the long-term conservation and sustainable development of intangible cultural heritage.
