A Study of Buddhist Wisdoms in Using Herbs of Ban-khok-sa-nga Village, Sai Moon Sub-District, Namphong District, Khon Kean Province

Abstract

              The aims of this research were: 1) to study the process of herb planting of the villagers in Ban-khok-sa-nga village, Sai Moon Sub-district, KhonKaen province; 2) to study the Buddhist wisdomsin using the herbs of the villagers. This study was a qualitative research conducted through the study of relevant documents and fieldwork study. The obtained data were interpreted by the descriptive analysis.


              The research results revealed that the herbs of the villagers are found in many species and many varieties. Planting herbs is usually planted according to their nature. Herb that is a biennial plant using cuttings. Some planting processes have a spell "na-mo bud-dha-ya" 3 times before watering some herbs. Some can be harvested immediately.


              In the cultivation of the herbs, people rely on the dhamma principles in caring the herbs such as Four Paths of Accomplishment (iddhipāda,) used in planting process, IV Dhātu (Four Elements), Orderliness of Nature (niyāma), Four Noble Truths (ariyasaccaya) and Buddha Recollection (buddhanussati) used in maintaining the herb conditions.
