Japan is a country whose geography and climate are not suitable for agriculture.The country needs to import food and agricultural products from abroad, and this affectsfood security and food safety. Therefore the government, the private sector, and consumersare focusing on self-reliance, which began in 1980 and has become more popular in currentsociety. Now the focus is placed on the country’s self-reliance rate by promoting the use oftheir own agricultural products, including the aspects of freshness, seasonal, cleanness, andbeing unique. Moreover, the use of their own products can help support women and makethe older labor force stronger.
