Results of Creative Art Activity Management on Enhancing Self-Control Abilities in Early Childhood

Abstract

In this study, the objectives are as follows: 1) to develop creative art activities for promoting self-control in early childhood, and 2) to compare the self-control abilities of preschool children before and after participating in creative art activities. The research target group consists of early childhood students aged 5–6 years, who are enrolled in Kindergarten Year 2, Room 2/7 at Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Kindergarten Division, during the academic year 2023. The ability to control oneself was assessed by teachers who evaluated 5 students. This research design is quasi-experimental. The tools used in this study include 1) six creative art activity plans for early childhood, 2) a self-control capability assessment for early childhood, and 3) behavior records during activities. Data analysis was conducted using basic statistical measures such as means, percentages, and test statistics. The differences were compared using the Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed Rank Test.


            The results of this research revealed: 1) The development of creative art activities effectively enhanced early childhood self-control, with a high quality tool that passed content precision testing by experts with a scored 1.00 and 2) The comparison of early childhood self-control abilities before and after participating in creative art activities showed a significant increase post-activity, with a significance level of .05. Children engaged in organized creative art activities demonstrated improved emotional awareness, concentration, expression of needs, and problem-solving skills
